Focusing: A Body-Based Approach

Course Description: This course offers a unique body-based approach to Focusing, designed to help participants develop a deeper connection with their physical experiences. Through guided exercises, mindful awareness, and somatic techniques, you will learn how to regulate your nervous system, ground yourself in the present moment, and learn to build resilience to stress. The course provides practical tools to enhance body awareness, learn the basic principles of focusing, and achieve a sense of inner balance.

Learning Objectives:

  • Practice one approach to helping clients tune into their body’s inner sensations and develop awareness of the “felt sense,” a crucial step in deepening self-understanding and emotional processing
  •  Learn 2-3 grounding techniques that help stabilize emotions and create a sense of safety, allowing for a more present and embodied experience in the focusing process.

Presenter: Anna Kuyumcuoglu

Anna began her career working in school-based clinics and worked in orphanages in India and Armenia and developed afterschool programs for Chinese communities in New York. She currently works at Wall Street Therapy in New York with a particular interest in body-based somatic therapies that provide grounded and solid measurable change. Previous work included agencies around NYC such as Bronx Children’s Psychiatric Center, Harlem Hospital Center, Bellevue Hospital Center, Hudson Guild, Housing Works, Strokes of Genius (program for children on the Spectrum) The Harriet and Robert Heilbrun School at the Jewish Guild For the Blind and the Institute for Community Living
