If you’ve often felt like you didn’t fit into a box, we understand, because creative arts therapies don't either. We can help you become your whole beautiful self.

LGBTQ affirming therapy has been an integral part of our practice for nearly 20 years. Our licensed therapists have training and experience providing psychotherapy that is understanding and effective in supporting the needs of the LGBTQ and GNC community and their families.

Why Use the Creative Arts in Therapy? The arts speak to who we are. They give us voice as creative and whole individuals. In working with LGBTQ individuals, our work centers around providing a creative space to explore and find solutions to issues around identity, self-esteem, personal and life goals, and interacting with family, friends and the workplace.  Our therapists are accepting, flexible, understanding, and non-judgmental.

Support for Children and Families

Navigating issues around gender and sexuality can be difficult. We recognize the need at every stage of life to have access to a safe space to talk openly about experiences and develop skills and strategies toward feeling more confident, comfortable, and empowered.
We offer support in learning how to navigate challenges at school, at work, and in the community, as well as how to respond to extended relationship pressures and stressors.

The arts speak to who we are. They give us voice and allow us to be seen as whole people. They celebrate our beautiful, diverse selves.

Therapy for LGBTQIA+ FAQS

What experience do your therapists have with trans individuals?

Our therapists have a varying range of experience working with trans individuals. All of our therapists however are LGBTQIA+ affirming, and are open to working with the full spectrum of gender identity and expression, and sexual orientation. If you are looking specifically for a therapist who specializes in LGBTQ issues, please select that filter when you do your therapist search.

How is your practice LGBTQIA+ affirming?

Our clients have shown us how to be LGBTQ affirming over the years! We have added pronouns to our profiles, rainbow flags and symbols to our office spaces, and worked hard to meet the needs and requests of our LGBTQ clientele in all the ways that they have signaled to us would make them feel more welcome and represented. We strive to keep up to date on the latest conversations and current issues impacting the LGBTQ community and seek training and consultation from experts when we feel that our skills are not up to par.  Several of our therapists are also members of the LGBTQ community themselves, and have lived experience of the challenges and joys that the LGBTQ community experiences.

Is art therapy good for LGBTQ issues?

The creative arts therapies are a great fit for LGBTQ issues, because they offer out-of-the-box, non confirmist and creative ways to express oneself and create one’s own blueprint for living. Creativity is reflected in the shaping of identity, relationship and community that characterizes the LGBTQ experience.  The arts are also a large part of the LGBTQ culture, and allow for an expansive and diverse expression of self.

What kind of therapy should I pick as an LGBTQ person?

The right therapist is probably more important than the type of therapy you choose as an LGBTQ person. However, you should choose the type of therapy that makes you feel curious, a little intrigued, and maybe even a bit nervous! Most importantly, pick something that you are willing to lean into, whether it is music, art or drama, that can allow you to get to know yourself on a deeper level and expand your self-awareness and self-expression.

How do I know I will feel comfortable in your practice?

Our practice aims to be an inclusive and affirming place for people from all walks of life. We hope that you will feel comfortable in our space. If you are not, please speak up! Our therapists are trained to take feedback (and not take it personally). We will work with you to address the areas that feel uncomfortable and determine whether they are a source of growth, or whether they are holding you back, and will adjust and support accordingly.
