For the past 7 years Kayla has worked to support adolescents and adults in understanding their identity as well as reducing depression and anxiety. In sessions she is warm, gentle, non judgmental and curious with her clients. Kayla utilizes movement therapy/body based interventions in addition to talk therapy, as a way to reconnect mind and body by releasing stuck emotions, feelings and traumas. She strives to include community, culture and creativity in her work with clients and how individuals can benefit from incorporating these into their lives. Kayla’s ideal client is someone who is willing to try, step out their comfort zone and is committed to their growth and development.

“In Western society, there’s such a disconnect because everyone is on the go… we don’t have a lot of time to connect to ourselves and listen. Connecting to your own body, your own rhythm is healing and dance therapy can assist that process.”

Something that matters to me

I really value nature and all it can teach us in regards to our mental well-being. Finding moments to commune, ground and reflect in nature is important to me. I especially value the element of water as a dance therapist. Salt and fresh water are often in constant motion allowing for the ebbs and flows of life. I think we can learn alot about coping with life and our relationships from observing water. It is resilient, strong, malleable, consistent, graceful and comforting and then some. All qualities needed in order to navigate our day to day life, growth and development of self. As we embody these qualities, we too can come to a state of grounded fluidity and peace.
