Group therapy with the creative arts is an opportunity to discover new things about yourself and reawaken your creativity in the process. Online groups offer a way to prioritize your mental health and well-being from wherever you are.

Group therapy encourages an exploration of yourself in relation to others,  fosters belonging, and reduces isolation. Our adult groups incorporate the arts in a way that allows you to learn about yourself and share at your own pace. Groups usually consist of 4 – 10 adults and are offered on a variety of topics including depression & anxiety, adult survivors of abuse or trauma, professional burnout, parenting, and improvisational play.

Meet yourself in a new way in creative community.

Tackling emotional problems with creativity can lead to a new kind of awareness and unexpected clarity on issues that may seem intractable. The result is a newfound ability to imagine different solutions and better outcomes. With the support of one of our licensed mental health therapists who is also trained in the arts, you can find relief from mild to serious emotional distress. We provide psychotherapy for adults, teens, children, families with the option to use the visual arts, sculpture, music, voice, digital technology, storytelling, dramatic play, poetry, and theater improvisation in the therapeutic process.

The real power of group therapy is in the discovery that you are not alone in your suffering.

Group Therapy FAQS

What makes an art therapy group different from regular group therapy?

Creative arts therapy groups are different from regular therapy groups because they offer a way for everyone to participate even if they don’t feel comfortable speaking. Through creative prompts, and the art making itself, each member can explore a topic or issue at their own pace, and share as much or as little as they feel comfortable. You can have an experience as an active participant and connect to yourself and to the group in whatever way works for you.

How are group members selected?

We usually select our group members through a brief (15 minute) screening call, to make sure that the group is a good fit for your needs, and so we can answer any questions or concerns that we should be aware of before joining. At any time if there are concerns that need to be shared privately with the therapist, group members can reach out to them directly.

Can I be in a group with my individual therapist?

Being in a group  that is run by your individual therapist is possible.  You and your therapist would most likely discuss the pros and cons first, how confidentiality would work, and what may come up around this arrangement. If you both determine that this is a good idea and that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, you can join the group. And you can also discuss with your therapist anything of concern that comes up in your individual sessions.

How long would I need to commit to group therapy?

It depends. Some of our groups are time-limited, like 8-10 weeks,  with an option to continue for another cycle. Others are ongoing and have rolling membership. Either way, if a specific time commitment is required, it will be communicated to you at the beginning so you can decide whether or not that works for you.
