Open to parents and caregivers who are interested in learning more about PDA, PDA traits, and other mental health issues that cause anxiety, demand avoidance, and/or oppositional behavior in children ages 10-14 yrs.   A PDA diagnosis is not required.

Skills Workshop for Parents: Supporting your 10- 14 year old with their mental health

Two 90 minute workshops for parents of kids with PDA traits (adhd, autism, highly sensitive, need for high control or need for autonomy)

In person workshop in our Cold Spring studio at 11 Peekskill Rd.

Small class size of no more than 10 parents for optimal learning, confidentiality, and support

  • Parents will learn basic PDA traits with an overview of the PDA profile and how it came to be
  • Parents will be able to identify the hallmarks of nervous system dysregulation in their child and the potential “why’s” behind problem behaviors
  • Learn to real life workable skills to help their loved one stay regulated, including how to model adaptive communication in times of stress and conflict
  • Learn practical skills for communicating with PDA children and helping them when in distress
  • Participate in role play,  art therapy activities for deeper exploration
  • Handouts  will be provided to reinforce learned skills

Presented by Nico Santamorena, MA, LCAT-lp

Nico is a clinician who is passionate about embracing neurodiversity, LGTBQ+ issues, and reducing shame in her clients—and herself.  They are excited to bring this topic to therapists and to collaborate, and to identify ways in which therapists can model resilience and change  in service of their clients. She has extensive experience helping parents who struggle with their children with PDA traits, as well as working therapeutically with these children and teens.
